Not sure that turning my hobby into a blog was the best idea but here we go…
There is no a real reason you should read my blog over another. To avoid large amounts of self induced stress, I’m going to post in a stream of consciences cooking sort of way. I hope to show you what I’m cooking, the good, the bad, and the favorites in the hopes that repetition will lead to improvement. Also, I have a horrible memory. Theoretically this will help me remember what recipes I’ve cooked and loved.
Rise and Render…A cycle of making and waiting. The name represents the wait time in two things I love, baking and motion graphics. I’m a motion graphics designer / animator at an ad firm in SF. Render is the time it takes in 2D / 3D programs to kick out the final image.
I search Pinterest, Blogs and Bon Appetit for photos and recipes I want to cook. Hands down, SmittenKitchen is my all time favorite. The photos are mine but I will always link to the source of the recipe or its inspiration.
I choose to practice variety and try to practice moderation. I’m an equal opportunity omnivore with a preference for things made from scratch and a long time love affair with bread and butter.
I’ve grown up in and around food service; grocery stores, deli counters, dessert kitchens, industrial kitchens, waitressing, catering and a degree in nutrition (although I try to block that out of my memory). But cooking and baking for myself finally turned into something I love and enjoy doing regularly. I feel like hitting a milestone when I could easily spend 8 hours in the kitchen on the weekend and cook a new recipe on a weeknight.
Not to worry, I won’t quit my day job.
